Yumei Liu, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Yumei Liu attended Xi’an Medical University and received her Ph.D. from Capital Medical University. Currently, she is working in the vascular ultrasound department in Xuanwu Hospital. Dr. Liu’s clinical specialty is ultrasound detection for intra-cranial and extra-cranial artery diseases for stroke risk assessment. She did pioneering work in intraoperative cerebral blood flow monitoring by TCD during CEA procedure. As an international visiting scholar at MUSC, she is working with Drs. Ovbiagele and Feng on several research projects.

Hernan Bayona
Hernán Francisco Bayona-Ortiz M.D.

Dr. Bayona is an attending neurologist at Fundación Santa Fe de Bogotá Hospital, where he is also Director of the stroke center. He is Associate Professor of neurology at Andes University, Colombia. He was the Stroke Group Coordinator from 2011 to 2013 for the Colombian Neurological Association. Dr. Bayona's previous research involved the implementation of stroke code in the hospital and lately in the pre hospital scenery. He also was involved in several stroke education campaigns in Colombia. At MUSC, Dr. Bayona has been working in research with the mentorship of Dr. Wayne Feng in the post-stroke spasticity, racial disparities in stroke rehabilitation and collaborated with Dr. Bruce Ovbiagele in stroke prevention guidelines project.

Dr. Bayona would like to continue research collaboration between MUSC and Fundación Santa Fe de Bogotá.

Rong Chen
Rong Chen, M.D., MS
Neurology attending and Associate Professor of Neurology

Dr. Chen graduated from Xiangya School of Medicine in 1996. Currently, she is a board certified Neurology attending at Department of Neurology in the Affiliated Hospital of Hainan Medical University in China. She mainly sees stroke patients in the hospital as well as clinics there. Her prior research focused on the impact of statin on inflamational process in stroke patients.
As an international research scholar at MUSC, she worked with Dr. Wayne Feng on research projects on stroke recovery and Post-Stroke Spasticity.

 

Hyung-Min Kwon
Hyung-Min Kwon, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Kwon graduated from Seoul National University College of Medicine in 1998. After his residency and fellowship in the department of Seoul National University Hospital, he has since been working in the Boramae Medical Center. Dr. Kwon’s specialty is stroke and headache disorders. He has performed various clinical studies in the field of stroke, using clinical and neuroimaging methods. Dr. Kwon has published numerous peer-reviewed papers on stroke epidemiology, stroke prevention and neuroimaging research. Currently, Dr. Kwon expanded his research while working with Dr. Marc Chimowitz on intracranial atherosclerosis in the MUSC Neurology Stroke Center.

 

Burak Pakoz
Burak Pakoz, M.D.

Burak Pakoz, native of Turkey, was an international research fellow in clinical neurophysiology and epilepsy. He is a member of Turkish Neurological Society, Turkish Chapter of International League Against Epilepsy, Turkish Sleep Medicine Society and Turkish Multiple Sclerosis Society. He is board certified on Neurology and Sleep Medicine at his own country. He has published papers in international and Turkish medical journals and made presentations on epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, headache and sleep. His research interests are invasive EEG, status epilepticus, ICU EEG monitoring and refractory epilepsy. Before coming to MUSC he worked as a staff Neurologist at the Kent Hospital in Izmir, Turkey. Dr. Pakoz is married and he is a father of two daughters.

 

Jong-Ho Park
Jong-Ho Park, M.D., Ph.D.
Associate Professor of Stroke Neurology
Kwandong University Myongji Hospital

Dr. Park is Professor of Stroke Neurology and Director of Stroke Center at academic university hospital in South Korea. Dr. Park has piloted numerous articles with research interests in the intracranial atherosclerosis. He also has an interest in stroke prevention, therapy, outcome, or risk factor/predictor for stroke. As a MUSC research scholar in 2015, he actively participated in research about risk prediction and stroke outcomes with Dr. Bruce Ovbiagele.

Jong-Ho Park, M.D., Ph.D. recently completed his International Stroke Research Fellowship at MUSC. During his time at MUSC, Dr. Park worked with Dr. Bruce Ovbiagele and Dr. Wayne Feng and so far 7 papers have emanated from these collaborations.
