Diversity in the College of Medicine

The diversity mission of the College of Medicine is to create an environment that fosters cultural understanding, cultural competency, and opportunities for individuals of all backgrounds. To support our mission and our vision to become a nationally recognized model of excellence for U.S. medical schools, the Group for Diversity Affairs works to enhance diversity among our students, residents, and faculty by implementing and maintaining programs designed to support underrepresented in medicine individuals.

Pathway Programs

Pathway programs (formerly known as Pipeline programs) engage students in middle, high school, and undergraduate school in a mentoring process (academic and professional) that prepares them for a future career in medicine.

Students

Programs for current students, minority and majority alike, promote a collegial, collaborative environment where all students feel welcome.

Residents & Fellows

Diversity programming for Resident and Fellows through the Graduate Medical Education (GME) office, residency training directors, and faculty have directly impacted our recruitment of underrepresented minorities.

Faculty

The number of underrepresented in medicine (URiM) faculty members has dramatically increased since the College of Medicine launched its diversity plan in 2002.
