This presentation will briefly review longitudinal evidence for sleep/circadian-related risk for substance use, define a key sleep/circadian construct – circadian misalignment – and describe current evidence for its link to substance use via reward pathways, and report relevant results from a recently-concluded R01 examining circadian misalignment, reward function, and alcohol use in high school students.
