Accreditation

Accreditation is central to our commitment to excellence in education and the success of our learners. At the Medical University of South Carolina, rigorous review by recognized regional and professional accrediting bodies affirms that our academic offerings meet national standards of quality and integrity. This commitment ensures that degrees and credentials earned here are respected, that continuous improvement is embedded in our culture, and that our graduates are well positioned to lead and serve in their professions.

Institutional Accreditation

The Medical University of South Carolina is accredited to award baccalaureate, master's, and doctoral degrees by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), one of seven regional accrediting organizations in the United States recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). MUSC's initial accreditation from SACSCOC was in 1971, and was last reaffirmed in 2017. The next reaffirmation is scheduled for 2027. MUSC also may offer credentials such as certificates and diplomas at approved degree levels. See MUSC's SACSCOC accreditation status, or view MUSC's SACSCOC Letter of Verification (PDF).

The SACSCOC is the body for the accreditation of degree-granting higher education institutions in the Southern states. It serves the institutions in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Latin America, and certain other international sites approved by the SACSCOC Board of Trustees. Questions about the accreditation of the Medical University of South Carolina may be directed in writing to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges at 1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, GA 30033-4097, by calling 404-679-4500, or by using information available on SACSCOC's website (https://www.sacscoc.org).

Professional Accreditations

MUSC offers several degree programs that are accredited by professional accrediting organizations. Each program oversees the maintenance of its own professional accreditation. Each program submits its profession-specific self study; the Office of Institutional Effectiveness serves as a central support resource for those applications. Information about professional accreditation is available on the website for each degree program.
