University Accreditation

The Medical University of South Carolina is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award baccalaureate, masters, and doctorate degrees.  Degree-granting institutions also may offer credentials such as certificates and diplomas at approved degree levels. Questions about the accreditation of the Medical University of South Carolina may be directed in writing to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges at 1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, GA 30033-4097, by calling (404)679-4500, or by using information available on SACSCOC's website (http://www.sacscoc.org).

More about SACSCOC Accreditation

SACSCOC specifies standards of accreditation for institution of higher education and facilitates a fair peer-review process to determine whether an institution demonstrates that it achieves those standards. MUSC's Office of Institutional Effectiveness coordinates with units, colleges, and services across the university to ensure that MUSC is able to demonstrate that it meets all accreditation standards. Reaffirmation of accreditation occurs every ten years, with an interim report due five years after reaffirmation.

MUSC's initial accreditation from SACSCOC was in 1971.  The last reaffirmation was in 2017.

Professional Accreditations

MUSC offers several degree programs that are accredited by professional accrediting organizations. Each program oversees the maintenance of its own professional accreditation. Each program submits its profession-specific self study; the Office of Institutional Effectiveness serves as a central support resource for those applications. Information about professional accreditation is available on the website for each degree program.
