Forgiveness and Incentive Programs

There are alternative methods to paying student loans back. Be sure to check out these programs and your employer to see if there are any programs available to you.

If you are employed by the U.S. Government (federal, state, local or tribal), or not-for-profit organization, you may qualify for PSFL. Requirements include having direct loans, using an income-driven repayment plan, and making 120 qualifying payments. Forgiven amounts are not considered taxable income. Many employers offer benefits like student loan repayment or tuition reimbursement to attract and retain talent. When job hunting, look for companies that provide these options. Check the program requirements carefully before enrolling.

South Carolina's AHEC offers incentive and loan repayment programs for healthcare professionals that practice in rural and underserved areas. Explore SC AHEC's Recruitment and Retention programs and the financial incentives available.
