Biography

Dr. Kristen Poston is an Assistant Professor in the College of Nursing Accelerated BSN program.  She received her Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from the University of South Carolina, and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, her Master of Science in Nursing, and her Doctor of Nursing Practice from the Medical University of South Carolina.

Dr. Poston is a first-generation healthcare provider within her family.  She was drawn to healthcare because of her upbringing, witnessing her father’s dedication to military service across the world.  The field of nursing, and the opportunities for lifelong service and advocacy that it provides, were a natural fit.  Dr. Poston spent her time as a registered nurse working in neurology and neurosurgery, and has a specific interest in acute stroke, as well as post-stroke transitional care.  Her doctoral work focused on reduction of readmissions in ischemic stroke patients.  She is an AANP certified Family Nurse Practitioner, and currently practices in urgent care.  Her clinical interests within this practice realm are focused on antibiotic stewardship and access to care.

Dr. Poston joined MUSC as an adjunct faculty in 2014 and transitioned to a full-time faculty role in 2017.  With a strong connection to MUSC due to her own educational endeavors, Dr. Poston is focused on developing stellar nurses through professional mentoring and the use of innovative education methods including technology and simulation.
