Financial Aid

Direct Loans, Pell Grants, and other federal student aid funds that are provided to individual students are not impacted by the January 27th, 2025, guidance temporarily pausing federal financial assistance programs. We continue to award and disburse federal student aid.

At the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), we're committed to helping students access the resources they need to fund their education. The Office of Student Financial Aid administers programs to support students through scholarships, grants, student loans, federal work-study, and VA educational benefits. Whether you're just starting your journey or preparing for graduation, we're here to guide you through your options and next steps.

Types of Financial Aid

The Office of Student Financial Aid assists students in identifying and understanding the various types of financial assistance they may pursue to support their graduate or professional education. These options include aid based on financial need, academic merit, service, and military benefits. While not all types of aid are awarded directly by MUSC, the Financial Aid team is available to help students navigate eligibility requirements, application processes, and responsible borrowing strategies.

Grants

Grants are need-based awards that do not need to be repaid. They are typically funded by federal or state governments and can help reduce your overall borrowing needs.

Scholarships

Scholarships are awarded based on merit, need, or other criteria, and they do not require repayment. MUSC offers institutional scholarships, and students are encouraged to explore external opportunities as well.

Student Loans

Loans are a common resource for funding your education. MUSC students may be eligible for federal student loans, as well as private alternatives. Understanding the types, terms, and responsibilities of borrowing is key to managing your financial future.

Federal Work-Study

The Federal Work-Study Program offers part-time jobs for eligible students, allowing you to earn money to help pay for education-related expenses.

VA Educational Benefits

Veterans and eligible dependents may qualify for VA education benefits through the GI Bill® or other veteran education programs.
