At MUSC, financial literacy resources help students understand the cost of education, build practical money management skills, and make informed financial decisions that support both their academic goals and future careers.

These resources are designed to meet students at every stage of their educational journey, from preparing for graduate or professional school to planning for life after training.

Financial education that supports student success

Financial literacy is essential to our daily life as it prepares us with the knowledge and skills to manage money effectively. Being able to manage money provides us with financial independence to follow our dreams.

Understanding our finances is not about getting rich quick. It requires time to understand the banking system, how to establish and maintain credit, purchase a home, provide protection with insurance, and so much more. Setting goals and understanding your dreams are also key elements.

The Medical University of South Carolina is dedicated to providing students with a better understanding of their finances. To achieve this goal, MUSC has created the Office of Financial Literacy. We are devoted to helping you chase your dream of becoming a healthcare leader while equipping you with the tools you need to reduce the amount of debt taken on while at the university.

Supporting well-being through financial understanding

Financial stress can affect academic performance, focus, and long-term planning. By providing proactive financial education, MUSC supports student well-being and helps reduce uncertainty around financial decision-making. Financial literacy resources are structured to be accessible, relevant, and flexible, recognizing that students’ financial questions evolve over time. Available support includes:

  • Educational workshops and presentations on common financial topics
  • Individual financial literacy consultations based on student needs
  • Self-guided learning opportunities that reinforce core concepts
  • Digital resources that encourage independent learning and confidence

These offerings are intentionally educational in nature and complement financial aid services by focusing on financial understanding and skill-building rather than aid processing.

A student-centered approach for financial education

While these resources primarily support enrolled students, they also reflect MUSC’s broader commitment to preparing future learners for the realities of professional education. Prospective students can explore this content to better understand how MUSC prioritizes financial readiness as part of the overall student experience.

This approach reinforces MUSC’s reputation for transparency, student support, and outcomes that extend beyond graduation.
