Dr. Scanlon earned her Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy from Thomas Jefferson University, her Master of Business Administration from Wilmington University, and her Occupational Therapy Doctorate from Thomas Jefferson University.
For twenty-five years Dr Scanlon worked as a practitioner in hospitals and outpatient practices treating burns, complex neurological conditions, lymphedema, and upper extremity injuries. She became a board-certified hand therapist (CHT) in 1997 and mentored dozens of novice OT practitioners in this specialization. During her time as a practitioner, she developed and expanded several rehabilitation programs that continue to serve their communities today.
In 2015, Dr. Scanlon left practice to work full-time in academia. Her courses focus on her clinical specialties, including orthopedic and neurological trauma and rehabilitation. She continues to mentor occupational therapists through the AOTA’s New Educator Mentorship program. Her scholarship interest includes the multifaceted issues of successfully transitioning students to confident novice practitioners.
