Biography

Dr. Julaine Fowlin serves as the Executive Director of the Office of Instructional Technology and Faculty Resources. With over 15 years of experience spanning corporate, higher education, and non-profit sectors, she brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her role. Dr. Fowlin oversees three units each led by a director. These units include Academic MediaClassroom Technology/AV Support and Instructional Design and Technology. Her leadership is marked by a unique blend of strategic vision and tactical execution, ensuring the delivery of innovative learning and development projects.

Dr. Fowlin's passion lies in providing a holistic approach to learning and development. She firmly believes that an institution's most valuable assets are its faculty, staff, and students. Her commitment to investing in people and fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation drives her work at MUSC, where she contributes significantly to the institution's educational mission.

Before joining MUSC she was the Assistant Director for Instructional Design at Vanderbilt University where she supported the design of courses for online, blended, and in-person contexts and led several faculty development initiatives. Prior to serving Vanderbilt University, she was the Director of Faculty Development at Auburn University Harrison College of Pharmacy (AUHCOP), designing and implementing a strategic integrated professional development plan for the school. At AUHCOP, she also served as the Assistant Director of Curriculum Development and Implementation where she led the design, implementation, and evaluation of an integrated competency-based Doctor of Pharmacy curriculum. Other areas of experience include helping design and launch online and blended courses at Auburn University, Virginia Tech, Holy Names University, and the University of the West Indies.

Committed to optimizing institutional outcomes, Dr. Fowlin champions strategic learning and development initiatives, emphasizing the importance of addressing the affective domain and fostering equity and inclusion. Her approach to learning and development is rooted in systems thinking, and she firmly believes in the power of collective action, encapsulated in her motto, "yes, we can, and together we will." With her innovative leadership and dedication, Dr. Julaine Fowlin continues to shape the future of education and drive positive change within her field.
