Biography

I am a Tenured Associate Professor of Nursing and Psychiatry at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). My research has focused on the development, evaluation, and implementation of technology-enhanced resources and clinical programs to improve access, equity, and quality of care available to youth, adults and families who develop mental health conditions secondary to traumatic events. To this end, I have acted as principal investigator and co-investigator in numerous well-designed and federally-, state-, and foundation-funded (i.e., National Institutes of Health, Duke Endowment Foundation, Victims of Crime Program) studies focused on the development, evaluation, and implementation of technology-enhanced clinical programs and interventions for addressing health (e.g., diabetes) and mental health (e.g., posttraumatic stress disorder) problems among trauma-affected children, teens and adults as well as traditional underserved populations. I am Co-Director of the Trauma Resilience and Recovery Program (TRRP) at MUSC, a multidisciplinary clinical service designed to address the mental health needs of traumatic injury patients. I was awarded three Duke Endowment grants (July 2017; December 2020; January 2024) to implement TRRP to  other Level I and II trauma centers across North and South Carolina and to improve access, equity, and quality of care to firearm injury survivors.  I was also awarded an NICHD R01 to conduct a multisite hybrid I efficacy implementation trial to evaluate the effectiveness of TRRP in promoting the emotional recovery of adolescent traumatic injury survivors. I have a broad background in health services research with specific training and expertise in program implementation and evaluation and the cultural adaptation of behavioral health programs for Hispanic and other racial/ethnic cultural groups, and qualitative and mixed method research. I provide mentorship and supervision om qualitative/mixed-methods research and implementation science in the development, cultural-adaptation, evaluation, and dissemination of behavioral health interventions. I also serve as Co-I and lead mentor on the Coaching & Resources for Entrepreneurial Women (CREW) Program at MUSC (NIH/NIGMS R25; PI: Feghali-Bostwick) designed to promote an entrepreneurial mindset among women in junior faculty and senior post-doctoral fellows.
