Biography

Katie Gaul directs the South Carolina Office for Healthcare Workforce (SCOHW) at the South Carolina Area Health Education Consortium (SC AHEC). Ms. Gaul oversees SCOHW’s research and service portfolio, supports the efforts of SC AHEC, and helps stakeholders across the state with their healthcare workforce data needs. Her research focuses on tracking and describing the supply, distribution and characteristics of the healthcare workforce in a way that data-driven, policy-relevant and accessible to a wide audience. She has a deep commitment to service, a well grounded understanding of state health workforce data systems and experience in providing data to inform policy.

Prior to returning to MUSC, Ms. Gaul was a senior policy analyst at the National Governors Association and a research associate with the health workforce and rural health research programs at the Cecil G. Sheps Center for Health Services Research at UNC Chapel Hill.
