Dr. Gilbert is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, Allergy and Sleep Medicine at MUSC. He completed his Internal Medicine training at The Reading Hospital, followed by a Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine fellowship at Thomas Jefferson in Philadelphia, PA. He then underwent additional subspecialty training, completing an Interventional Pulmonology fellowship at Johns Hopkins.
Dr. Gilbert is board certified in pulmonary medicine, critical care medicine, and interventional pulmonology. He specializes in the evaluation and management of multiple pulmonary/thoracic disease processes including lung nodules/mass, adenopathy, airway obstruction, and pleural related diseases (i.e., pleural effusion). He participates within the Hollings Cancer Center multidisciplinary thoracic oncology clinic. Dr. Gilbert has numerous research interests within interventional pulmonology including the evaluation of new technology, management of central airway obstruction, and quality of life related to malignant pleural effusions.
Dr. Gilbert currently serves as the director of Interventional Pulmonology and director of the Bronchoscopy Suite. He also is the fellowship director of the Interventional Pulmonology fellowship program at MUSC, the only training program in Interventional Pulmonology in South Carolina.
