Biography

Dr. Christopher Hairfield is an Instructor in the College of Nursing Undergraduate Program. He joined the MUSC College of Nursing team as adjunct clinical faculty in the Fall of 2021 and as full-time faculty in Spring of 2022.

 

An MUSC Health nursing team since 2006, Dr. Hairfield joined after completing the Clinical Associate Apprenticeship. Committed to lifelong learning, he went on to earn his LPN and ADN from Trident Technical College, a BSN and MSN from Western Governor’s University, and a PhD in Nursing from Walden University. During his time at MUSC Health Charleston, he worked across the organization holding the following clinical roles: Clinical Associate, Patient Care Technician, Emergency Department Technician, Licensed Practical Nurse, Registered Nurse. As a frontline registered nurse, Dr. Hairfield worked in Med-Surg, Transplant, and Critical Care. As a clinical educator and program manager, Dr. Hairfield’s focus was on role transition in nursing practice and supporting the acculturation of new graduate nurses entering the workforce.

 

In 2018, Dr. Hairfield led the MUSC Health Transitions in Nursing Practice Program’s initial accreditation journey with the program being awarded Accreditation with Distinction in March of 2019.

 

In March 2020, Dr. Hairfield served as part of the leadership team for the MUSC Health COVID-19 Specimen Collection Site responsible for education and daily operation. The site was the first on the East Coast to pair telemedicine with remote specimen collection aiming to increase availability of testing across the Lowcountry the state of South Carolina.
