Biography

Dr. Amber Jarnecke is a licensed clinical psychologist and Associate Professor at the Medical University of South Carolina. She received her BA, MS, and PhD from Purdue University. She completed her clinical psychology internship and NIAAA-funded postdoctoral fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Jarnecke's research focuses on how interpersonal relationships can maintain and promote recovery from substance use disorders and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). She is leading a community-based participatory research project developing a digital tool to better screen and treatment plan for intimate partner violence and co-occurring mental health conditions in substance use treatment settings. She is also currently working on federally-funded grants to better understand the neurobiology underlying alcohol use disorder and PTSD and disseminate treatments that promote recovery from co-occurring substance use and PTSD. Dr. Jarnecke is passionate about training and mentorship and invites individuals to collaborate with her on research and clinical work.
