Dr. Diana Layne, PhD, RN, CPHQ is an Assistant Professor in the MUSC College of Nursing with primary teaching responsibilities in the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program as well as the PhD program. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing and Master of Science degree in nursing with a concentration in Acute Care Leadership from East Carolina University. She received her PhD from the Medical University of South Carolina in Nursing Science.

Dr. Layne's research area of interest is broadly caregiving but with two distinct foci. In 2021, Dr. Layne received a KL2 Career Development Award through SC Clinical and Translational Research Institute to adapt an existing nurse led palliative care intervention for use in individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and their caregivers.

In addition to her research, she is a certified professional in healthcare quality with training as a lean six sigma black belt. Dr. Layne serves as the secretary for Sigma Theta Tau Gamma Omicron at Large chapter and is a member of the New Knowledge and Innovation council at the Medical University Hospital Authority. Dr. Layne is also a member of the American Nurses Association, SC Nurses Association, and Sigma Theta Tau International.
