Amy Smith DNP, APRN, AGNP-C, CNE is an Assistant Professor at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) College of Nursing, where she teaches in the Undergraduate Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program. Her passion for teaching began during her early career as an oncology nurse in 2007 and continues to drive her work as a nurse educator and Director of Prelicensure Programs. Certified as a Certified Nurse Educator (CNE), she is recognized for her innovation in nursing education and active involvement in state and national organizations.
She currently serves on the Education Review Committee for the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association and contributes to advancing nursing practice and curriculum development. In addition to her academic role, she is a board-certified adult gerontology nurse practitioner. She practices with the MUSC Palliative Care ambulatory team, specializing in the care of adults with serious, life-limiting illnesses.
Her contributions to nursing education and clinical practice have earned her multiple honors, including the 2025 Palmetto Gold Award for Nursing Excellence, the 2024 ELNEC Award for Excellence, the 2024 Excellence in Faculty Teaching Award, and the 2021 Daisy Faculty Award. Her areas of expertise include the advancement of primary palliative care education, interprofessional education, and pain and symptom management. She is deeply committed to preparing the next generation of nurses to deliver compassionate, evidence-based care to patients and families.
