Biography

Dr. Van Beusecum obtained his Ph.D. in pathobiology and molecular medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in the Division of Nephrology. Following the completion of his graduate training, he pursued his postdoctoral fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in the Division of Clinical Pharmacology. Dr. Van Beusecum continues his career at the Division of Nephrology, Department of Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina where he was promoted to Assistant Professor in 2021. He has extensive training and skills in the fields of endothelial cell biology, renal and cardiovascular inflammation, and antigen-presenting cell biology. His current research projects focus on the role growth arrest specific-6 and Axl signaling in the development of essential hypertension. Moreover, he is interested in the role of endothelial and antigen presenting cell crosstalk in the development of hypertension and chronic kidney disease.
