Biography

Jennifer Warthen, MSW, LISW-CP graduated from The College of Charleston in 1995 with a BS in Psychology and an MSW with a clinical focus from the University of South Carolina in 2000. Prior to joining MUSC, Jennifer worked as a child and family therapist specializing in abuse and neglect and working with private and state adoptive families.

She received advanced training in forensic interviewing, trauma focused CBT, attachment based therapies, and play therapy. She joined the faculty at The Medical University of South Carolina in 2006 and co-founded Project Rex, an MUSC treatment program for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders. She authored the curriculum for the school-based Rex Program and currently serves as the Director of Children’s Programming for Project Rex.

Ms. Warthen has 14-plus years of clinical work experience with children and their families and has completed advanced training in working with children diagnosed with ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Attachment Disorders and Mood Disorders. She specializes in Behavioral and Movement-based therapies.

In July 2014 Jennifer received training and certification from the UCLA PEERS program which is evidence based social skills training program for children and teens with ADHD and Autism. PEERS groups and other social skills groups for children with ADHD and ASD are currently being offered by Project Rex.
