Dr. Moreland is a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Moreland’s primary research interests focus on prevention and treatment of mental health and related consequences following trauma exposure, with particular focus on high-risk consequences including substance use and disadvantaged populations. She has published over 120 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals and presented over 250 presentations at national and international conferences. Dr. Moreland serves as PI or Co-I on grants funded through OVC, NIH, FEMA, SAHMSA, and CDC.
Dr. Moreland currently serves as the Associate Director of the National Mass Violence Center (NMVC), an OVC-funded initiate aimed at improving community preparedness and the nation’s capacity to serve victims recovering from mass violence through research, planning, training, technology, and collaboration. Dr. Moreland also serves as the Director of the Improving Community Preparedness Division of the NMVC.
Dr. Moreland has expertise in consequences, stressors, and available resources and treatments related to substance use, with specific expertise in opioid use disorder and assessing for OUD and treatment options in the Emergency Department. Dr. Moreland serves as a core member of South Carolina’s 21st Cures Initiative, to improve access to treatment for opioid use disorder in South Carolina, as well as a Co-Investigator on the NIDA Clinical Trials Network Southern Consortium Node.
