Joni D. Nelson, Ph.D., holds a primary appointment as associate professor in the James B. Edwards College of Dental Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), where she serves as chief of the Division of Population Oral Health in the Department of Biomedical & Community Health Sciences. She also holds a secondary appointment as associate professor in the Department of Public Health Sciences in the College of Medicine.
Dr. Nelson has recently been appointed as the assistant director for the Office of Workforce Development at the MUSC Hollings Cancer Center. Her research focuses on qualitative research evaluation, social determinants of health, head and neck cancer, quality improvement science and collaborative care workforce models to improve population health and oral health access.
Dr. Nelson is a graduate of the Arnold School of Public Health in Health Promotion, Education and Behavior from the University of South Carolina and received her Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences from MUSC.
