Biography

Research activities in the laboratory are focused on the biology of the complement system, with a current emphasis on the role of complement in inflammation and the shaping of immune responses. In this context,  studies have encompassed multiple diseases and disease conditions such as ischemia reperfusion injury, auto and alloimmunity, cancer immunity, and CNS injury. More recently, the research focus of the laboratory has been on both transplant immunology and brain injury; the latter principally in the context of stroke and traumatic brain injury. The laboratory pioneered the development of complement inhibitors that are targeted to anatomical and/or disease sites and that inhibit different complement pathways or different complement activation products, and in this regardthe laboratory is active in various entrepreneurial activities
