The Center for Advancement, Recruitment, and Retention of the Workforce (ARROW) is dedicated to strengthening career pathways in academic medicine, healthcare, and biomedical sciences.

The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Center for Global Health, reporting to the Office of the Provost, is a university-wide initiative to bring global efforts under one umbrella to advance the global vision of MUSC and to serve as a catalyst for the innovative work of our faculty and students.

Under the leadership of Interim Director, Dr. Heather Boger, the Center for Health Aging is committed promoting health, longevity, and improving the quality of life for South Carolina's seniors.

The Faculty Ombuds provides a free faculty service that is an impartial, independent, confidential, and informal option for resolution of puzzling or troublesome issues faced by faculty. An ombudsperson is a neutral person who can assist in resolving concerns and disputes in an informal, confidential, impartial manner.

The only National Cancer Institute-Designated Cancer Center in South Carolina, Hollings Cancer Center is at the forefront of cancer research. This research is the driving force behind delivering medical advances to patients and their families, enabling us to educate health care professionals and the public, and to establish outreach services for underserved populations.

The MUSC Libraries supports the creation of new knowledge, the education of health professionals, lifelong learning, and timely access to information, informed health care decisions, as well as preserving the historical record of the Campus and health professions in South Carolina.

Led by the Associate Provost for Education Innovation & Student Life, this office strengthens the academic and student experience across MUSC's six colleges by advancing the education, training and support future healthcare leaders, researchers and clinicians need to thrive in an evolving healthcare system.

Led by the Associate Provost for Educational Planning & Effectiveness, this office advances continuous quality improvement and strengthens the university's ability to demonstration accountability for outcomes across its education mission. The office also represents the Office of the Provost in educational partnerships with other colleges and universities. The Office of Enrollment Management and Office of Institutional Effectiveness report through this area.

Led by the Associate Provost for Finance & Administration, this office provides financial strategy, decision support and business analytics for MUSC's six colleges and the auxiliary units under the purview of the Provost. Its work helps align resources, inform planning and strengthen data-informed decision-making across the academic enterprise. 

The health (or medical) humanities is an interdisciplinary field of study in which the arts, humanities, and social sciences are applied to issues of health and health care.

The MUSC Office of Research is dedicated to engaging community members in all aspects of the research process. Research and discovery programs at MUSC promote health, reduce the risk of illness and disease, and build community resilience.

John V. Marymont, M.D., MBA, an orthopaedic surgeon and seasoned academic medical leader, is the executive vice president for Academic Affairs and provost for the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). He serves as the chief academic officer for the University overseeing its six colleges, education, research, innovation and AI enterprise. With nearly 25 years of executive experience at Baylor College of Medicine, Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, and the University of South Alabama, Dr. Marymont has played pivotal roles in major healthcare transitions, academic growth, and medical education excellence.

Prior to his current position, Dr. Marymont held the roles of vice president for Medical Affairs and dean of the Frederick P. Whiddon College of Medicine at the University of South Alabama. There, he oversaw USA Health and the Frederick P. Whiddon College of Medicine and led transformative growth, including restructuring the health system, creating the USA Healthcare Authority, and expanding the clinical enterprise to more than 7,000 employees and $1.3 billion in annual revenue. Under his leadership, USA Health successfully acquired Providence Hospital and clinics, launched new residency programs, achieved full LCME accreditation, advanced a new $200 million medical education and research facility, fundraised more than $165 million, and developed new degrees in healthcare leadership and instructional design. During his tenure at LSU Health Sciences Center Shreveport, he served as chair of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and interim dean of the Medical School. He played a key role as a leader in the privatization of the state-owned hospital system in North Louisiana. At Baylor College of Medicine, he was a tenured professor and chief of the Foot and Ankle Division within the Department of Orthopedic Surgery.

Dr. Marymont earned his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Northwestern University, medical degree from Vanderbilt University, orthopedic residency at The University of Texas Health Sciences Center-Houston, completed advanced orthopedic fellowships at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation and the New England Baptist Hospital. He holds an Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Rice University’s Jones School of Business. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa, was inducted as a faculty member into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and was bestowed as a Jones Scholar by the business school faculty at Rice University.
