I had an amazing experience on my global health rotation in Puerto Escondido, Mexico! It was so interesting to learn more about the health care system there and how it differs from ours in the United States, as well as see the various medical settings (centro de salud, clinic, hospital).
My Spanish language skills also improved tremendously, which will be very helpful when I am caring for Spanish-speaking patients in my future practice. Having the opportunity to be immersed in a different culture is eye-opening and humbling.
The slogan of the program I traveled with, Child Family Health International (CFHI), is "Let the World Change You," which I reflected on frequently while there because I honestly felt like it did.
This was truly an invaluable experience, and I am so grateful for the financial support from MUSC Center for Global Health for helping make it happen!
