MUSC students, residents, and fellows are involved in clinical, research, and service projects around the globe, working closely with local partners to understand and address health challenges. The center helps facilitate many of those experiences, working with students and trainees to identify sites and projects and evaluate them for their safety, academic programming, and ethical engagement in local health settings.
Field experiences have a life-changing impact on students, residents, and fellows – and prepares them to better care for patients at home and abroad. They gain exposure to how medicine is practiced in another country, enhance their clinical skills and better equip them to address health disparities globally and locally. Studies show that trainees who participate in international clinical rotations are more likely to later practice medicine among underserved and multicultural populations in the United States.
"Our goal is to foster global health engagement that is grounded in humility, equity, solidarity, and social justice." - Kathleen Ellis, Executive Director
