If you are experiencing an incident involving mental health, we recommend calling International SOS. MUSC’s membership allows you to connect with counseling services through International SOS.
All students, staff, and faculty who have registered their international MUSC travel in the travel registry and are traveling outside of their home country. For non-U.S. citizens, home country is defined as their current country of residence/domicile. Coverage does not apply on trips longer than 180 consecutive days per trip, or when you are traveling to your home country, even on university-related business.
In most cases, travelers registered for and on MUSC travel are covered by an accident/sickness and emergency evacuation insurance plan.
For any medical or security assistance, call International SOS at +1-215-942-8478 or through the assistance app. International SOS is available 24/7 worldwide.
This insurance acts as primary coverage for all urgent and emergent medical expenses, medical and security evacuation, medical and security repatriation, repatriation of mortal remains, trip interruption, and lost luggage that occurs during travel outside their country of residence.
Please refer here for more information on what insurance is provided to eligible travelers.
The plan does not cover routine care such as physical exams, preventive care or routine maternity expenses, surgical second opinions, non-emergency vision or dental expenses, or home health care. In addition, coverage is excluded for non-emergency evacuations.
No. Personal travel is not covered by MUSC’s International SOS membership. As an MUSC member, however, you can purchase a discounted individual or family membership for your personal trips.
If International SOS pays for covered medical treatment on your behalf, the claim will be automatically sent to Cigna, and International SOS will be reimbursed directly. The traveler does not need to submit any paperwork. If coordination of payment upfront for medical services is unavailable or was not initiated by International SOS, you can submit a claim to Cigna for recovery of an out-of-pocket payment.
You should submit a claim form through the Cigna online portal. It is important to keep complete records of the expenses to support your claim.
