Incoming Student Information

Student pre-matriculation requirements

All MUSC students are required to submit documentation of immunity/immunization to vaccine-preventable conditions prior to beginning semester coursework on campus. Maintaining these high standards protects the safety of the students, staff, and patients. LifeNet provides you access to your student health medical and immunization record. You will enter your immunization dates with supporting documents into LifeNet.

How to Submit Immunizations

Required Vaccines

MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella)

Document:

  • Proof of receipt of 2 doses of MMR vaccine (first dose needs to be after first birthday)

OR

  • Positive MMR titer

Tuberculosis screening

Within 3 months of the start of school!!!

Document Required:

  • QuantiFERON Blood Test or T-Spot Blood Test

Varicella (Chicken Pox)

  • Proof of receipt of 2 doses of Varicella vaccine (first dose needs to be on or after first birthday).

OR

  • Positive varicella titer

*Documented History of Chicken Pox Disease is not accepted as immunity.

Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis (Adult Tdap)

  • An adult Tdap on or after 6/10/2017. If it has been more than 10 years since your last adult Tdap you will need a booster (Please do not enter dates of childhood DTaps)

Flu Vaccine

Due to the nature of the flu vaccine, requirement and deadline depend on enrollment term.

  • Spring Enrollment (January): Required upon entry
  • Summer Enrollment (May-July): Seasonal Influenza vaccine given after August 1st of entering year
  • Fall Enrollment (August): Seasonal Influenza vaccine given after August 1st of entering year

Meningococcal/Hepatitis B information sheet

  • Complete the form in LifeNet

Hepatitis B vaccine series-Peds/Adol series:

(series usually designated "peds/adol" when given in early childhood)

  • 3 Dates Required

OR

Adult Hepatitis Series Dates Required (Heplisav-B preferred)

  • Copy of original documentation of Hepatitis B series

Hepatitis B Surface Antibody (IgG) Quantitative Titer

All Clinical MUSC students are required to show immunity to Hepatitis B

  • A Positive/Reactive Lab Report of Hepatitis B Surface Antibody (IgG) Quantitative Titer demonstrating Immunity HBsAg≥10mIU/mL

Hep B Titer Immunity Results

IF YOUR HEP B TITER (HBsAb IgG) RESULTS ARE:

Non-immune (Antibody level < 10mIU/mL)

  • Will need Hep B Heplisav B booster, followed by a repeat titer (1 month after booster) to check immunity after booster

Immunity detected (Antibody level > 10mIU/mL)

  • No further action required

Student Health Insurance

MUSC requires all students to maintain health insurance as a condition of enrollment.

All enrolled students may be seen at Student Health Services, regardless of your health insurance plan. There are no charges for office visits or for in-office testing.

Insurance becomes necessary to cover services that cannot be provided in the clinic, which includes sending out labs, imaging studies, specialty referrals, emergency medical care, surgical procedures, medications, and hospitalization. You are encouraged to choose the insurance plan that best meets your needs. This plan can be a personal private plan, a plan through your family/spouse, or the school-sponsored student health insurance plan through BlueCross BlueShield.
