New to event planning as a student organization officer or chair? Contact the Office of Student Engagement to schedule a walk-through and learn about MUSC policies and procedures before making event arrangements or signing contracts. Our office is here to help you understand the approval, alcohol, safety and planning requirements.
All events hosted by a recognized student organization where students are the primary attendees and either a contract is required or alcohol is served or available for purchase, including happy hours and cash bars, must be entered into Engage at least six weeks before the event using the “Create Event” button located under your organization’s profile.
Hosting an event with alcohol comes with added responsibility. As an MUSC student organization, you are responsible for creating a safe environment for your guests and following MUSC policies and South Carolina law.
Student Organizations are expected to abide by the MUSC Alcohol Service Policy when planning an event in which alcohol will be served.
Please remember that students should not sign contracts on behalf of their organizations. All leases, rental agreements or contracts (this includes invoices or waivers with "terms & conditions") related to a student event must be submitted to MUSC Legal Services via Symplr. College specific organizations should reach out to the appropriate Dean’s office with questions, university wide organizations should reach out to the Office of Student Engagement.
MUSC Insurance Services will be copied on your Engage submission to determine if your event requires additional insurance if your event poses additional risk. This applies to student events with contracts, terms and conditions, alcohol or other qualifying activities.
All hosts must review the Responsible Hosting Guidelines ahead of planning any event involving contracts or alcohol.
