The Medical University of South Carolina's academic year includes a fall term beginning in August, a spring term beginning in January, and summer term beginning in May.
The University Registrar establishes the official calendar, followed by the Medical University of South Carolina, with approval from the Deans of the colleges within the university. Start dates, end dates, and breaks within the semester may vary by program. Specific clinical courses within some professional programs may overlap semesters. The dates for drop/add, state and federal holidays, and commencement are valid throughout the university.
Understanding Calendars A & B
Calendar A and Calendar B have different start and end dates to meet the needs of our diverse academic programs. Calendar B offers a later start date, accommodating our academic programs enrolling new students in the summer semester by allowing their new students additional time to graduate from their undergraduate institutions in the preceding spring. In the fall, Calendar B provides a late start to accommodate our academic programs with clinical rotations.
