Dusti Annan-Coultas is Associate Professor and Director of Operations in the Office of Interprofessional Initiatives at the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Annan’s background is in the area of education and instructional technology, and her teaching and research interests include teaching innovations, interprofessional education, interprofessional collaborations in the study of effective teaching and use of instructional technology in higher education, and faculty professional development. Dr. Annan-Coultas leads and directs interprofessional courses and activities for MUSC students that advance their skills and knowledge of interprofessional teamwork and collaborative practice.

Dr. G. Hamilton Baker, MD, MS is an associate professor of pediatric cardiology and public health atthe Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). He has completed a master’s program inBiomedical Data Science and Informatics at Clemson University, authored over 60 peer-reviewedjournal publications, and holds a U.S. patent in interventional image guidance. He is the co-founderand co-director of the Clemson University - MUSC Artificial Intelligence Hub. His research focuseson the application of deep learning in congenital heart disease. He has a special interest in theDr. G. Hamilton Baker, MD, MS is an associate professor of pediatric cardiology and public health atthe Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). He has completed a master’s program inBiomedical Data Science and Informatics at Clemson University, authored over 60 peer-reviewedjournal publications, and holds a U.S. patent in interventional image guidance. He is the co-founderand co-director of the Clemson University - MUSC Artificial Intelligence Hub. His research focuseson the application of deep learning in congenital heart disease. He has a special interest in theethical issues surrounding AI in healthcare.

Crystal Broj is the Enterprise Chief Digital Transformation Officer for MUSC, starting in 2022.

In her current role, she is responsible for driving and accelerating the Digital Transformation Strategy and overseeing the delivery of products, solutions, and services, delivering optimal value for the MUSC enterprise: healthcare systems and healthcare consumers, as well as University and Research areas.

Previously, Crystal served as the AVP for Digital Strategy & Transformation for NorthShore University Health system and Chief Technology & Innovation Officer for American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE).

Her time at NorthShore focused on the digital front door including a new mobile wrapper app and at AADE building an award-winning website, which was a one-stop shop for all diabetes devices and education. Crystal earned her bachelor’s degree from Northern Illinois University. Originally a native from Chicago, she now enjoys “low country living” in Charleston.

Dr. Julaine Fowlin is the Executive Director of the Office of Instructional Technology and Faculty Resources at MUSC. She has over 15 years of experience in learning and development across various sectors. She oversees three units that offer academic media, classroom technology, and instructional design services. She is passionate about providing a holistic approach to learning and development, investing in people, and fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation. She has led the design and implementation of integrated, online, and blended courses at several institutions, including Vanderbilt University, Auburn University, and the University of the West Indies. She champions strategic learning and development initiatives, addressing the affective domain and equity and inclusion. She believes in the power of collective action, and her motto is "yes, we can, and together we will."

Dr. Goodwin is the Chief Innovation Officer for the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). Dr. Goodwin is charged with serving as a catalyst for programs and initiatives that incentive a culture of innovation. She also provides oversight and coordination amongst MUSC’s innovation ecosystem, developing intrapreneurial and entrepreneurial strategies to support a diverse innovation portfolio spanning all domains of the tripartite mission. Prior to this role, Dr. Goodwin was the Vice President of Development for the Zucker Institute for Applied Neurosciences, a technology accelerator at MUSC, and had also served as the Deputy Director of the MUSC Foundation for Research Development, the organization’s technology transfer office. In 2022, she led the effort to merge these two groups into the Zucker Institute for Innovation Commercialization and now also serves as the Board Chair for the new entity.

Dr. Goodwin came to MUSC from a Boston-based intellectual property (IP) consulting firm where she was Director of the Medical Device division, providing insight to client companies on IP matters pertaining to a vast array of medical technologies. Dr. Goodwin completed a post-doctoral fellowship in the Harvard-MIT Health Sciences and Technology program. She holds a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Stony Brook University.

Aaron Heath, JD, CISSP, serves as the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and Cybersecurity Counsel at MUSC. In this role, he oversees various domains including governance, risk, and compliance, identity and access management, security technologies, and security operations. Aaron started his career as the IT manager at a local non-profit before embarking upon a career in information security while completing law school. Thereafter, he continued to work in information security and law focusing in the areas of incident response, forensics, regulatory compliance, and third-party risk management. During this time, he obtained his CISSP, GNFA, and EnCE certifications and established a cyber security consulting firm focused on small and medium-sized businesses. Before becoming CISO at MUSC, he worked as an attorney in MUSC’s Office of General Counsel, focusing his practice on technology transactions, security and privacy, and health care law.

Dusty Jackson is currently the Director of the MUSC Wellness Center. With a genuine passion for assisting individuals in achieving their health and wellness goals, he strives to dismantle barriers and guide them towards reaching their fullest potential. Having obtained his Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Kinesiology from the University of Georgia, Dusty holds a diverse range of fitness certifications that enable him to effectively support clients in attaining their objectives. Over the course of 14 years, he has worked in various capacities within the fitness industry, including collegiate, non-profit, and corporate settings. Presently, Dusty is dedicated to helping the Charleston community realize their truest selves through physical exercise.

Erick Lemon is the Director of Digital Strategies and Innovation at MUSC Libraries. In this position, Erick Leads innovative new technology efforts to support the research and education of students, faculty, and staff. In his current role, he has served as Principal Investigator of a Technology Improvement grant awarded by the Network of the National Library of Medicine. Erick is the co-author of Using Virtual Cohorts for Wellness, Problem-Solving, and Leadership Development. He holds a Master of Science in Information Technology from Kennesaw State University and a Bachelor of Science in Technology Support and Training Management from the University of South Carolina.

Dr. Obeid is an endowed chair and professor in Biomedical Informatics in the Department of Public Health Sciences at MUSC. After completing his residency in Pediatrics and a fellowship in Pediatric Endocrinology, he received formal training in Medical Informatics at the Division of Health Sciences and Technology, a joint Harvard-MIT fellowship program. He has had continuous federal funding since his arrival at MUSC in 2008, serving as co-investigator, informatics leader or principal investigator on several grants focusing on data-driven projects, research infrastructure, and artificial intelligence (AI). He is the founder and director of two Informatics and Data Management courses at MUSC and the co-founder of AI Hub. His research interests include AI applications, specifically, deep learning using electronic health records data for e-phenotyping and prediction of outcomes with focus on clinical text mining.

Lisa has been a practicing physical therapist for 39 years and currently serves as the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). In this capacity, she serves as the chief academic officer of the university with administrative oversight and leadership over all six colleges (Medicine, Dental Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing, Health Professions, and Graduate Studies), the Hollings Cancer Center, the Offices of Research, Education Innovation and Student Life, Educational Planning and Effectiveness, Innovation, and Well-being. She manages a total budget of approximately 50 million dollars. She currently serves on the MUSC leadership team developing the enterprise wide strategic plan to integrate artificial intelligence into education, clinical care, research and operations.

Lisa was a past vice president of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and chair of the Public Policy and Advocacy Committee. As chair, she was engaged in payment reform, new healthcare delivery models, telehealth, and legislative advocacy. She met regularly with legislators and policy makers in Washington D.C. and has been invited to make national presentations on healthcare reform and the future of healthcare.

Gigi Smith is the Associate Provost for Education Innovation & Student Life at the Medical University of South Carolina. She has been a pediatric nurse and nurse practitioner for 39 years. Dr. Smith’s program of pediatric epilepsy research has focused on self- and family-management, caregiving, and behavioral health correlates. She is also interested in the
epidemiological patterns, comorbidities, and health related outcomes of epilepsy. At a national level she is currently at Trustee at Hartwick College, has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the American Epilepsy Society and chair of the AES Advanced Providers Committee.

In addition, Dr. Smith has focused on education interventions for students and health care providers regarding substance use through a grant funded by SAMHSA, and opioid education
with funding from the Duke Endowment. She also obtained funding to build nursing education programs from Blue Cross Blue Shield of SC, HRSA, and the Clare Foundation. She founded the Charleston Consortium for Student Health and Wellbeing in 2022 with the Citadel and College of Charleston to promote student wellbeing.

Mary Smith is the Director of Instructional Design and Technology at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). With a Master of Teaching in Secondary Education and over 15 years of dedicated experience in education, Mary leads the administration, support, and training on all central instructional technologies at MUSC, including the learning management system and virtual classroom tools. Mary plays a pivotal role in faculty development initiatives, leveraging her expertise in online education, inclusive learning, and technology-enhanced teaching. Passionate about humanizing the learning experience and fostering a positive, inclusive environment, Mary excels in discovering innovative methods to cultivate impactful moments of learner engagement, ensuring that education remains dynamic and transformative.

In the CAE/WC, Smith teaches students to improve writing skills and develop as lifelong learners. He has worked as a science writing teacher and learning specialist since 1992, and began at MUSC in 1999. His expertise is on using writing to develop critical thinking, promote learning, and develop professional identity. He mentors and coaches students across programs. He is an integral part of preparing students for board and certifying exams across the range of health professions. He also teaches in pathway programs that bring students under-represented in health care and biomedical science closer to training at MUSC. Smith won the MUSC Foundation Teaching Excellence Award—Educator/Mentor Category(2012), and the College of Medicine’s Golden Apple Award(2018) An active university citizen since appointment, he is chair of the 55-member Academic Affairs Faculty. 

Ramsey Wehbe, MD MSAI is a heart failure cardiologist and an assistant professor of medicine at MUSC, with dual appointments in the Division of Cardiology and the Biomedical Informatics Center. He is a physician scientist with expertise and formal training in artificial intelligence (AI), and his clinical interests include cardiac imaging in the diagnosis of heart failure.

Dr. Wehbe completed his undergraduate studies at Duke University and medical school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Prior to medical school, he spent a year at the National Institutes of Health as a clinical research fellow. He then completed his clinical training at Northwestern, including a residency in internal medicine and fellowships in cardiovascular disease and advanced heart failure. Additionally, he completed an innovative fellowship in AI at the Northwestern Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute, which culminated in a Master of Science in AI from the Northwestern McCormick School of Engineering.
