Sarah Navarrete is a clinical instructor in the Accelerated BSN Program at the Medical University of South Carolina. In 2001, she received her Bachelor of Arts in Biology from the College of Charleston. Shortly after graduation, she was accepted into the first nursing cohort of MUSC's Accelerated BSN Program and received her degree in 2003. She received her Master of Science in Nursing with an emphasis in Nursing Education from Grand Canyon University in 2017.
Upon graduation from MUSC, Ms. Navarrete began working as a labor and delivery nurse at Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital in Charleston, where she worked for nearly fifteen years. Working in this field of nursing, her passion for Women's Health grew tremendously. She began teaching childbirth preparation courses and became a nationally certified childbirth educator through the Academy of Certified Birth Educators (ACBE). Becoming a childbirth educator soon lead her to realize that not only did she have a love for Women's Health, but to teaching as well.
Ms. Navarrete has served as adjunct faculty in the Accelerated BSN Program since 2015, teaching in both the clinical and didactic realms. She has co-taught predominantly in the Women's Health and Foundations of Nursing courses. She also has worked as a skills lab instructor, using low and high-fidelity simulation trainers. In addition, she has served as a clinical instructor in the Population Focused Nursing course.
Ms. Navarrete's areas of interest include the management and care of intrapartum patients, including both low-risk and high-risk pregnant women. Her other areas of interest and research include improving nursing education by using innovative teaching techniques within the classroom, such as low and high-fidelity simulation, "flipping" the classroom, and case study utilization. Ms. Navarrete's most recent evidence-based practice research includes implementing skin-to-skin connection ("Kangaroo Care") in the operating room during cesarean sections.
