Welcome to the Medical University of South Carolina!

Letter from the Associate Provost for Education Innovation & Student Life

Dear MUSC Students,

Welcome to the Medical University of South Carolina, the only integrated academic health sciences center in South Carolina that serves the state through the tripartite mission of education, research and patient care.

You have made an excellent decision to become part of the MUSC family. MUSC is one university composed of six colleges, which educate more than 3,000 students and 700 residents in Dental Medicine, Graduate Studies, Health Professions, Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy. The Division of Education Innovation & Student Life is the center that unites the six healthcare colleges within the university.

The mission of Education Innovation & Student Life is to provide the training and education support our future healthcare leaders, researchers, and providers require to serve in an ever-changing system. MUSC students develop the essential knowledge, skills and behaviors to excel in patient-centered, evidence-based care using an interprofessional approach. In order to accomplish this MUSC students learn about and experience how to search and analyze information, essential leadership and communication skills with respect for diversity and culturally congruent practice.

The work of Education Innovation & Student Life is to facilitate the academic success of our students. Please check out our website about our division units. The Center for Academic Excellence and Writing Center, Counseling and Psychological Services, Interprofessional Initiatives, Instructional Technology and Faculty Resources, Student Programs and Diversity, and the Harper Wellness Center are here to support your academic goals and student life experiences at MUSC. There are many opportunities to be involved at the college and university level and we look forward to you being part of those experiences!

We are continually seeking input and feedback from students, staff and faculty to improve our resources and processes. It is through continuous quality improvement and staying on the cutting edge of education that we create a positive learning environment and community where students flourish and develop into tomorrow’s healthcare providers, biomedical scientists, scholars, and leaders.

We welcome your comments and suggestions. Email us at stuinfo@musc.edu. We are invested in your success!

Sincerely,

Gigi Smith, PhD, RN, PNP, FAES
