Annually, we recognize a member of the MUSC community who made outstanding contributions to the university through championing the advancement of MUSC faculty.

The award is named in honor of Dr. Darlene Shaw, who served as the Associate Provost of Education & Student Life at MUSC from 2009 to 2020 and directed the Women Scholars Initiative, which later evolved into the ARROW program. Dr. Shaw made outstanding contributions in the areas of service, leadership, teaching, and mentoring during her tenure at MUSC. She is the recipient of numerous accolades, including the MUSC Foundation Teaching Excellence Award in the Educator/Mentor category, the South Carolina Psychological Association Outstanding Educator Award, and the MUSC Women Scholars Initiative Advancement of Women Faculty Award in 2015
