This month, we had the honor of hosting our 3MT (Three Minute Thesis) competition, during which eight Ph.D. and medical science training program (MSTP) students delivered compelling and engaging three-minute presentations of their dissertation studies.

It was an exceptional event, characterized by an enthusiastic audience, discerning judges and outstanding presentations.

The 3MT competition, originally developed by the University of Queensland in 2008, is now an internationally celebrated event that cultivates students' academic, presentation, and research communication skills.

Participants are tasked with effectively summarizing their research in just three minutes, using language accessible to a non-specialist audience.

We are pleased to recognize the outstanding achievements of our participants:

  • First Place and People's Choice – Kate Glorioso, “Hold on to your Cast Iron! Cooking up a Better Target for Diabetes Drugs”
  • Second Place – Kameisha Rashford, “The Decorated Chaos of Cancer”
  • Third Place – Emma Funk, “Closing the Door on PDAC Progression: Understanding GDF15-immune Cell Signaling in Pancreatic Tumors”
  • Fourth Place – Anna Tsyrulnikov, “Solving the Puzzle of Opioid Addiction”

We are deeply appreciative of all the presenters who demonstrated remarkable courage and generosity in sharing their research with us so skillfully. We look forward to the winners presenting their worthwhile research during Alumni Weekend, Feb. 27 - March 1.
