The mission of the Office of Humanities is to promote teaching, scholarship, and research in the health or medical humanities. We develop and support humanities initiatives at the University that foster skills in critical thinking, analysis, observation, reflection, communication, self-care, and mindfulness in MUSC students.
We also collaborate enterprise-wide on initiatives that enhance the health and well-being of all members of the MUSC community, including patients and families. Finally, we encourage research that investigates the role arts and humanities play in improving health professions education and the health outcomes of individuals and communities.
Our vision is that every member of the MUSC family—including students, patients, families, caregivers, and staff—will have opportunities to enhance their health and well-being through engagement with evidence-based, educational programs in the arts and humanities.
