New Faces Around the College

Please join us in welcoming five new faculty members to the James B. Edwards College of Dental Medicine. Each of these individuals brings us a new perspective on oral health, which we are very excited to dive deeper in.

Abhiram Maddi, D.M.D.Dr. Abhiram Maddi joined us in October of 2021 as an associate professor in the Department of Stomatology, Division of Periodontics. He has spent the past eight years as an associate professor of periodontics and endodontics at the State University of New York in Buffalo. We look forward to seeing what Dr. Maddi brings to the James B. Edwards College of Dental Medicine.

Following Dr. Maddi, we were joined by Dr. Tina Woods, Dr. Sonali Rathore and Dr. Angela Yoon.

Tina Woods, D.M.D.Dr. Tina Woods comes to us from the University of Mississippi School of Dentistry, where she has been an associate professor in the Department of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery and Pathology. She completed her residency training at the University of Florida and a Doctor of Dental Medicine at the University of Mississippi. She also previously served as a fellow in forensic dentistry at the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine. Dr. Woods brings a wealth of teaching and biopsy service experience to MUSC. She began working on campus the first week of January 2022.

Sonali Rathore, D.M.D.Dr. Sonali Rathore comes to us from the Department of Oral Diagnostic Sciences at VCU School of Dentistry. She earned her certificate in the Clinical Research Scholars Training Program at UNC School of Dentistry, where she also received her MS in oral and maxillofacial radiology. Dr. Rathore brings a magnitude of passion and dedication to the field of dentistry and to MUSC, where she will serve as oral radiologist in the Division of Diagnostic Science and Services of the Department of Stomatology.

Angela Yoon, D.M.D.Finally, we are welcoming Dr. Angela Yoon, who will be joining us as a professor and director for oral and maxillofacial pathology in the Department of Stomatology, Division of Diagnostic Sciences and Services. This will be effective March 1, 2022. Dr. Yoon is coming to us from the Columbia University College of Dental Medicine, where she served as director of the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology. She is coming to us with a great deal of experience and passion for the field of dentistry. We look forward to having her joining our James B. Edwards College of Dental Medicine family.

Christian Brenes, D.D.S., MS Not only were we welcoming new faculty, but we had a well-earned promotion within our college. The Department of Oral Rehabilitation is delighted to announce the recruitment of a new graduate digital dentistry director, starting Dec. 1, 2021. We are happy to welcome our own Christian Brenes D.D.S., MS as the new director. Dr. Brenes previously joined MUSC in the Division of Removable Prosthodontics in 2020. He is currently as associate professor and has been serving as interim director for the graduate digital program since August of this past year. Dr. Brenes received his D.D.S. degree from the Latin American University of Science and Technology of Costa Rica. He completed an implant surgical and restorative fellowship before obtaining his master’s degree in prosthodontics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Dentistry, where he was granted the Ann and G. Randolph Babcock Fellowship Award for excellence. He is the founder of the digital dentistry education social media platform and serves as an international speaker, consultant for several companies, and author of multiple publications on topics such as CAD/CAM, guided surgery, implants, biomaterials, milling, 3D printing technologies and dental esthetics.
