Dean Huja

Greetings! In the quarter we had two significant ceremonies – our White Coat Ceremony for the Class of 2021 and our Hooding for the Class of 2019.

We are delighted to have graduated 73 dentists this past May, with 27 of them going on to residency programs from coast to coast, including: Oregon Health & Science University, Ohio State University, University of Michigan, East Carolina University, University of North Carolina, and the Medical University of South Carolina, just to name a few. Almost half (32) of our recent graduates are already associates or on their way to buying practices, with a majority remaining in South Carolina! We also have nine graduates who are now serving our country in the armed forces, ensuring that our service members have outstanding oral health care. So far, to the best of our knowledge, only one of our graduates has gone on to corporate dentistry.

On behalf of our faculty, I can confidently say we are so proud of each and every one of our graduates, wherever they may be along their path. We wish them well!

Our White Coat Ceremony was a great success with nearly 720 parents, family members, and friends in attendance (including some guests from abroad!). Our junior student doctors have worked hard through high school, college, and a grueling two years of dental education to reach this point.

Meanwhile, the Class of 2023 has just started their journey. We look forward to helping them succeed.

For the third consecutive year since 2017, we been successful in not raising our tuition. In my last newsletter, I wrote about our $10 million scholarship campaign as a way, along with no tuition increase, to address student debt. We are also working on a plan for academic growth in our postgraduate and predoctoral programs as we plan for the next decade. We also have embarked on developing our 2020-2025 strategic plan and we have engaged an alumni representative as a member of our strategic planning committee.

We could not do what we do without our outstanding faculty, staff, students, and supporters like you!
