The Golden Grads of the Class of 1975 celebrated their milestone anniversary at Alumni Weekend.

Dear James B. Edwards College of Dental Medicine alumni and friends,‌

First, I extend a special hello to our 78 newest alumni. To the Class of 2025, you are both talented and compassionate, prepared to provide outstanding care to your patients and contribute meaningfully to your communities.

A highlight from the graduation celebrations this year was remarks from the American Dental Association (ADA) president, Dr. Brett Kessler, at the Honors Convocation and Hooding Ceremony. We were honored that MUSC trustees Dr. James Lemon and Dr. Paul Davis, President of the South Carolina Dental Association Dr. Deidre Crockett, and commencement alumni speaker Dr. Mary Alice Hughes, Class of 2012, also addressed the graduates.

Next, a big thank you to all who joined us at Alumni Weekend! View the photo album.

The extended weekend in Charleston was packed with continuing education (CE), class reunions, a fiftieth anniversary for the Class of 1975 (pictured above), updates on the college, campus tours of new construction, longtime friends and new connections.

Thank you to the amazing students who led tours of our wonderful college and escorted the alumni to the Dr. Richard and Stacy Boyd Lobby reception where we were able to thank Dr. Boyd, Class of 1982, and Mrs. Boyd for their generous gift in renovating our lobby.

Dr. Boyd shared a few words with us, including the following, which reflect his sincere generosity.

“When I sold my practice, my friend Ed called to ask what my ‘next’ was. I had just read a book called ‘Die With Zero,’ so it was timely. I decided then that I wanted to be giving while living. Stacy and I immediately started to move our timetable for our giving – to our family, some friends who needed it, to our schools and many others.”

Dr. Boyd’s inspiring remarks are shared in full here.

It is truly an honor and a privilege to see our CDM Family give back to the next generation of student doctors.

In addition to creating a welcoming new space, Dr. and Mrs. Boyd’s gift is a reminder that once a part of the CDM family, always a part of the CDM family. Alumni who are members of our faculty today are also a reminder of the relationships that continue long after graduation.

Six adults and two children stand behind a blue ribbon with the words “Grand Opening” on it. The adults (and one small girl) are all using blue scissors to cut the ribbon. On the wall behind them it sayd “Richard and Stacy Boyd Lobby”
Members of the Boyd family cut the official ribbon together: Dr. Richard “Reb” Boyd Jr., Class of 2020, Mrs. Mallory Harris, Dr. Ali Boyd, Dr. Richard Boyd, Class of 1982, Miss Georgia Leigh Harris, Mrs. Stacy Boyd, Mr. Mikey Harris and Miss Louise Harris officially reopened the beautifully renovated lobby.

Sincerely,

Sarandeep Huja, D.D.S., Ph.D.
