Dental Medicine

Goodwin Grove Thomas Jr., D.M.D, ’78, passed away June 15 at Atrium Health in Pineville, North Carolina. Goody, as he was known to his friends and family, was well respected and a much-loved husband, father and grandfather, choosing to serve his community as an orthodontist.

Health Professions

Deann Butler, DHA, ’22, has a new position as adjunct professor at UNC Charlotte.

Rhiannon Doherty, DHA, ’25, has a new position as an adjunct instructor at the University of Central Florida.

Abel Guevara III, DHA, ’23, was elected to serve on the board of directors for the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) in 2025. AHIMA is the nation’s leading professional organization for health informatics and information management.

Christine Kestner, Ph.D., ’23, is a scientific and medical writer focused on translating complex research into accessible, credible content across digital media and publications. She recently launched Brain and Beyond, a science communication platform on Instagram that simplifies neuroscience, immunology and oncology for the public.

Stephen Liebowitz, DHA, ’23, started a new role as the director of the spine service line at Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York City. He was also elected vice president of The Connecticut Association of Healthcare Executives effective Jan. 1, 2026.

Robert Martin, DHA, ’19, has accepted a position as senior director of financial operations at UT Health San Antonio.

Maria Sudak, DHA, ’17 has a new position as CEO at Landmark Hospital Cape Girardeau.

Nekita Sullivan, DPT, ’11, gave the keynote speech at Clemson University's Entrepreneurship Week for the College of Behavioral, Social and Health Sciences.

Edrin Williams, DHA, ’23 has a new position as executive director of grants and research at the MUSC Telehealth Center of Excellence.

Ami Wright, DHA, ’22, has accepted a new position as the director of PPMO at Augusta Health in Fishersville, Virginia.

Medicine

Thaddeus Bell, M.D., ’76, received the Trailblazer Award presented by the Charleston County Medical Society during the J19 Week Festival, also known as Lowcountry Juneteenth Week. The award recognizes Bell’s unwavering commitment to the community.

George Chisolm, M.D., ’74, has passed away. He lived in Orlando, Florida.

Hal Crosswell Jr., M.D., ’60, has practiced ophthalmology at the Columbia Eye Clinic for more than 50 years. He recently published “Eyes for Haiti,” about a Haitian eye clinic he started in 1971 through the United Methodist Volunteers in Mission program.

Leonard Goldberg, M.D., ’60, has spent most of his career as a rheumatologist at the University of California-Los Angeles. He recently published “A Scandalous Affair,” the latest novel in his daughter of Sherlock Holmes series.

Carolyn R. Guilloud, M.D., ’17, recently moved back to Lexington, South Carolina, where she is the associate program director of the new Internal Medicine Residency Program at Lexington Medical Center.

Benjamin Ingram, M.D., ’05, is medical advisor to the Allied Special Forces Operations Command (SOFCOM) in Mons, Belgium, where he works with representatives from 32 NATO allied nations to develop medical doctrine and policy that enable interoperable, multinational support.

Mark Alan Lockett, M.D., ’90, was named MUSC Health's chief quality officer for the Charleston division. In this role, he ensures the division delivers safe, high-quality care across all its facilities. Lockett is a professor in the MUSC Department of Surgery, serving in the Surgical Oncology Division.

Terri Luhrs, M.D., ’88, retired in October 2024 from her OB-GYN practice, Women for Women’s Health in Macon, Georgia, after 32 years. 

Reggie Munden, M.D., ’90, received the 2025 Society of Thoracic Radiology Gold Medal Lifetime Achievement Award, which recognizes a member who has significantly contributed to thoracic imaging and the Society of Thoracic Radiology.

Roger Newman, M.D., ’80, recently published the historical fiction novel, “Boys.” Newman is a maternal fetal medicine specialist and faculty member in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at MUSC.

H. Biemann Othersen Jr., ’53, received the 2024 Alumni Award of Honor, the highest honor awarded by the College of Charleston Alumni Association.

M. Edward Wilson, M.D., ’80, received the MUSC Distinguished Faculty Service Award during the 2025 MUSC Faculty Awards. Each year, MUSC honors the exceptional contributions of faculty whose innovation and dedication drive meaningful impact at MUSC and beyond.

Nursing

Shannon Phillips, DNP, ’13, was recently appointed to the Ann Darlington Edwards Endowed Chair in Nursing at MUSC College of Nursing.

Carrie Cormack, MSN, ’03, is leading the way in expanding the international impact of palliative care at the MUSC College of Nursing through her work with the ELNEC (End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium).

Terri Fowler, DNP, ’11, serves as the associate dean for Practice, Innovative Partnerships, and Advocacy at the MUSC College of Nursing. She continues to practice as a family nurse practitioner with Fetter Health Care Network in Moncks Corner, South Carolina.

Josh Moran, DNP, ’24, now serves as a clinical instructor and is the founder of Hearts and Minds, which supports patients at the Institute of Psychiatry by empowering individuals with recovery-focused resources, including nicotine replacement therapy, that promote long-term recovery and improve outcomes following hospitalization.

Sinclaire Fields, R.N., ’22, earned her oncology certified nurse (OCN) credential and is pursuing her MSN on the Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (AGNP) track at the College of Nursing. "

Ifeoma Onyeike, DPN, ’23, passed the ACHPN exam and published her DNP project, "Implementation of an Advance Directives Completion Protocol for Hospitalized Patients with Serious Illness: A Quality Improvement Initiative," in the Journal of Hospice and Palliative Nursing.

Kirsten Schweitzer, BSN, ’20, received clinical ladder status.

Pharmacy

Edmund Elder, Ph.D., ’90 and ’85, and Lisa Cordes, Pharm. D., ’07, were inducted into the Rho Chi society.
