Telehealth Tour

The MUSC Center for Telehealth is one of only two Telehealth Centers of Excellence by the Health Services and Resources Administration (HRSA) and headquarters of the South Carolina Telehealth Alliance (SCTA) that work in collaboration with other major health systems throughout the state. During this tour you will learn about our history, collaboration efforts, the large range of programs we offer (school-based telehealth, Tele-ICU, etc.), and our leaders will be willing to answer any questions you may have.

Colbert Library Tour

The MUSC Libraries invite you to visit the newly renovated James W. Colbert Education Center and Library Building, proudly unveiled to the Medical University of South Carolina community in April 2023. Thoughtfully redesigned to foster innovation and collaboration, the new building boasts a variety of study and open collaboration spaces, a 3D printing studio, and state-of-the-art classrooms to support student learning and engagement. The building is also home to PJ’s Coffee Shop, the Innovation Station Technology Store, the Center for Clinical Assessment and Teaching, the MUSC Health Care Simulation Center, and the Center for Academic Excellence and Writing Center. We invite you to see all that our beautiful building has to offer.

Walking Garden/Arboretum Tour

An hour-long walking tour showcasing new garden installations and the history of the MUSC campus. The tour will begin at the terraced park at Drug Discovery and the new Pocket Urban Farm we will be installing on the west side of the library. Then we will travel to the adjacent Porche Medicinal Garden that we are installing after the completion of the new College of Pharmacy. We will then head east towards the Horseshoe and then north towards the historic part of campus – Waring Library/Colcock Hall and St Luke’s chapel. There will be some surprises along the way as well! There are seating/resting opportunities in this area and restrooms along the way.

Guttridge Laboratory Tour

The Guttridge laboratory is focused on the NF‐B signaling pathway, a key regulator of cell inflammatory responses, and how this pathway regulates cellular differentiation and tumorigenesis. Using skeletal muscle as a model system of differentiation new insights for muscle related pathologies have led to research in four main areas:

Involuntary weight loss in cancer patients referred to as cachexia that results in muscle wasting
Duchenne muscular dystrophy which is caused by degeneration of skeletal and cardiac muscle
Rhabdomyosarcoma, which is a childhood cancer that often develops in skeletal muscle
Pancreatic cancer, which exhibits one of the highest incidences of cachexia and muscle loss

The laboratory is also interested in developing NF‐B inhibitors or compounds that inhibit downstream effectors of the NF‐B pathway as potential therapies against, cancer cachexia, muscular dystrophy, rhabdomyosarcoma, and pancreatic cancer.
